Steady Speed Driving School
Manual & Automatic Driving Lessons – Northwest London

Last Updated: September 2026

These Terms & Conditions apply to all driving lessons, training sessions and related services provided by Steady Speed Driving School (“we”, “us”, “our”) to learners (“you”, “your”).

By booking a driving lesson with us, you agree to these Terms & Conditions.

1. Our Services

Steady Speed Driving School provides professional driving tuition in manual and automatic vehicles.

Our instructors are DVSA-approved driving instructors (ADIs) and aim to provide lessons in a calm, patient and supportive environment.

Lessons may include:

  • Beginner driving lessons
  • Refresher driving lessons
  • Manual driving lessons
  • Automatic driving lessons
  • Motorway and dual-carriageway training
  • Independent driving
  • Test preparation
  • Practical driving test preparation
  • Pass-plus or other additional training where offered

The availability of particular services may vary depending on the instructor, vehicle and learner’s requirements.

2. Booking Lessons

Lessons can be booked by telephone, text message, WhatsApp, online booking system or any other booking method provided by Steady Speed Driving School.

A lesson is considered booked once the date and time have been agreed between you and the instructor.

You should provide accurate contact details so that we can communicate important information regarding your lessons.

3. Lesson Prices and Payment

Current lesson prices will be communicated to you before your booking.

Payment must be made using the payment method agreed with your instructor.

Where lessons or packages are paid for in advance, they should be used within the period communicated to you at the time of purchase, unless otherwise agreed.

We reserve the right to change our prices. Any price change will not affect lessons that have already been paid for.

4. Lesson Duration

The duration of each lesson will be agreed at the time of booking.

Lessons will normally begin and finish at the agreed time. If you arrive late, the lesson may still finish at the originally agreed time, meaning the lesson duration may be reduced.

Where the instructor is responsible for a delay, reasonable arrangements will be made to ensure you receive the lesson time agreed wherever practicable.

5. Cancellation and Rescheduling

We understand that circumstances can change.

If you need to cancel or reschedule a lesson, please provide at least 48 hours’ notice wherever possible.

Where less than 48 hours’ notice is provided, a cancellation charge may apply because the instructor may have been unable to offer that appointment to another learner.

The cancellation charge will be reasonable and proportionate to the loss caused by the cancellation.

No charge will normally be made where cancellation is caused by circumstances genuinely outside your reasonable control, subject to the circumstances and evidence where appropriate.

Repeated late cancellations or missed appointments may result in future lessons requiring payment in advance.

6. Missed Lessons / No-Show

If you fail to attend a booked lesson without providing reasonable notice, the lesson may be treated as a missed appointment.

A charge may apply to cover the instructor’s reasonable losses.

If you are unable to attend because of an emergency or unforeseen circumstance, please contact your instructor as soon as possible.

7. Instructor Cancellation

We may occasionally need to cancel or rearrange a lesson because of circumstances including:

  • Illness
  • Vehicle problems
  • Severe weather
  • Road closures
  • Unexpected emergencies
  • DVSA-related commitments
  • Other circumstances outside our reasonable control

Where we cancel a lesson, we will make reasonable efforts to offer you an alternative appointment.

If a lesson has been paid for and cannot be rearranged, any refund due will be handled fairly and in accordance with applicable consumer law.

8. Driving Test Appointments

Your instructor may advise you about when you are ready to take your practical driving test.

However, the final decision to book, change or cancel your driving test remains yours.

You are responsible for ensuring that your driving test is booked correctly and that you meet the DVSA requirements for taking the test.

DVSA currently requires 10 full working days’ notice to receive a standard refund when cancelling or changing a car driving test, subject to certain exceptions.

9. Use of the Instructor’s Vehicle for a Driving Test

Where agreed, your instructor may provide their vehicle for your practical driving test.

The applicable test-day vehicle hire fee will be communicated to you before the test.

The vehicle will only be provided for the test if your instructor reasonably believes that it is safe and appropriate for you to use it.

If the instructor reasonably believes that you are not prepared to the required standard or that using the vehicle would create a safety concern, they may decline to provide the vehicle.

This does not guarantee that you will pass your driving test.

10. Learner Requirements

You must:

  • Hold a valid provisional or full driving licence appropriate for the vehicle being driven.
  • Meet the legal requirements to drive in the UK.
  • Be able to read a number plate at the required statutory distance.
  • Inform your instructor of any medical condition, medication or other circumstance that may legally or practically affect your ability to drive.
  • Follow reasonable instructions given by your instructor.
  • Wear suitable footwear and clothing for driving.
  • Behave respectfully towards your instructor.

Your instructor may check your entitlement to drive and your ability to read a number plate at the beginning of your training, as reflected in the DVSA ADI Code of Practice.

11. Safety

Safety is our priority.

Your instructor may stop, postpone or terminate a lesson if they reasonably believe that continuing would be unsafe.

Examples include:

  • Unsafe weather or road conditions
  • Learner illness or incapacity
  • Intoxication or suspected impairment
  • Aggressive or threatening behaviour
  • Failure to follow reasonable safety instructions
  • Vehicle or equipment problems

No refund will automatically be due where a lesson is stopped because of the learner’s unsafe conduct or impairment.

12. Alcohol, Drugs and Medication

You must not attend a driving lesson while under the influence of alcohol, illegal drugs or any substance that may impair your ability to drive safely.

If your instructor reasonably believes that you are not fit to drive, the lesson may be stopped or cancelled.

Any applicable cancellation charge will be considered in accordance with the circumstances and applicable consumer law.

13. Mobile Phones

Learners must not use a mobile phone while driving except where permitted by law and under the instructor’s direction for training purposes.

Your instructor may use a mobile phone where necessary for safety, navigation, communication or legitimate business purposes when it is safe to do so.

14. Progress and Test Readiness

Driving ability develops at different rates for different learners.

We cannot guarantee:

  • A particular number of lessons required to pass
  • A specific test date
  • A first-time pass
  • A particular test result

Your instructor will provide guidance regarding your progress and may advise you when they believe you are approaching the required test standard.

The DVSA ADI Code of Practice expects instructors to keep records of learner progress and discuss future training requirements and test readiness with learners.

15. Driving Test Pass Guarantee

Unless specifically stated in writing, Steady Speed Driving School does not offer a guaranteed driving test pass.

Passing a driving test depends on the learner’s performance and the conditions on the day of the test.

16. Refunds

Refund requests should be made directly to Steady Speed Driving School.

Where lessons have been prepaid, any refund will be considered based on:

  • Lessons already provided
  • Lessons remaining
  • Any applicable cancellation
  • Reasonable costs or losses incurred
  • Any specific terms communicated when the payment was made
  • Applicable UK consumer law

We will not use terms that unfairly prevent you from exercising your legal consumer rights. UK consumer guidance states that cancellation charges should be fair and reasonable rather than automatically allowing a business to retain all advance payments.

17. Online and Distance Bookings

Where you enter into a contract with us online, by telephone or through another distance-selling method, statutory consumer cancellation rights may apply.

Where applicable, consumers generally have a 14-day cancellation period for distance contracts, subject to the relevant legal exceptions. If you specifically request that driving lessons begin during that cancellation period, different rules may apply to services already provided.

We will provide any information required by applicable consumer legislation.

18. Gift Vouchers and Lesson Packages

Where gift vouchers or lesson packages are offered, their specific terms, validity period and conditions will be communicated at the time of purchase.

Unless otherwise stated, gift vouchers are not exchangeable for cash.

Any expiry period will be clearly communicated before purchase.

19. Personal Belongings

Learners are responsible for their personal belongings during lessons.

Steady Speed Driving School will take reasonable care of the vehicle but cannot accept responsibility for loss or damage to personal belongings unless caused by our negligence or otherwise required by law.

20. Privacy

We may collect and use personal information such as your name, telephone number, email address, booking information and driving-training records for purposes including:

  • Managing bookings
  • Providing driving lessons
  • Communicating with learners
  • Processing payments
  • Maintaining appropriate training records
  • Handling enquiries and complaints

Personal information will be handled in accordance with applicable UK data-protection legislation and our Privacy Policy.

21. Complaints

We want every learner to have a positive experience.

If you have a concern about your instructor or driving lessons, please contact Steady Speed Driving School as soon as possible so that we have an opportunity to investigate and resolve the matter.

Please provide:

  • Your name
  • Date and time of the relevant lesson
  • Instructor’s name, where applicable
  • Details of your concern
  • Any supporting information

We aim to respond to complaints promptly and fairly.

The DVSA also provides a process for complaints about approved driving instructors where learners are unhappy with their service or behaviour.

22. Instructor Standards

Our instructors aim to provide lessons professionally, respectfully and with reasonable care and skill.

We aim to follow the DVSA Approved Driving Instructor Code of Practice, which includes expectations regarding terms of business, lesson prices, cancellations, refunds, complaints and learner progress.

23. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms & Conditions from time to time to reflect changes to our services, pricing, operating procedures or legal requirements.

The latest version will be published on our website.

Changes will not retrospectively remove rights that you have already acquired.

24. Limitation of Liability

Nothing in these Terms & Conditions excludes or limits liability where doing so would be unlawful.

In particular, nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud or any other liability that cannot legally be excluded or limited.

Our services will be provided with reasonable care and skill as required by applicable law.

25. Governing Law

These Terms & Conditions are governed by the laws of England and Wales.

Any disputes will be dealt with in accordance with applicable UK law.
